Giving back to Animal Welfare League Queensland
In February of 2022, we had the opportunity to visit Animal Welfare League Queensland based in Coombabah on the Gold Coast. The team gave us a behind the scenes look at the incredible work that gets carried out every single day. 365 days of the year. To ensure they keep their promise. And that’s to never euthanise a healthy, sociable or treatable animal in their care. At Animals in Charge, rescue has always been close to our heart. Which is why it’s important for us to be giving back to Animal Welfare League Queensland.
What started out in 1959 as the ‘Animal Lovers League’ rapidly transformed into the ‘Animal Protection League’ by 1980. The small passionate group of volunteers had approached the council and secured a parcel of land on which they built a shelter for abandoned animals. The impressive facility still stands today. 60 years on. As Animal Welfare League Queensland.
The addition of Community Vet Clinics has allowed the organisation to support even more animals across their 5 Queensland rehoming sites. It wouldn’t be what it is today without the unwavering support of hundreds of volunteers and foster carers. These volunteers work tirelessly to care for, rehome and reunite thousands of animals every year.
AWLQ has initiated 42 community based programs. School visits with animals to assist with behaviour and learning. Emergency care for pet’s of the elderly that may require sudden hospitalisation. Not to mention providing medical checks and food to support animals of the homeless.
As you know, the welfare of animals is the driving force behind Animals in Charge. It’s important for us to support organisations that align with our passion and purpose. Witnessing first hand the love and compassion provided to abandoned animals really was a humbling experience. One our team will cherish and be inspired by for years to come.
Animals in Charge proudly supports Animal Welfare League Queensland. The wonderful work they continue to do for animals is truly appreciated.
For that we thank you.
